Liverpool Receives $930,000 for Water Upgrades, Stambaugh Says

July 21, 2025

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) last week approved a $930,000 low-interest loan to support Liverpool Municipal Authority as it rehabilitates the borough’s aging water system, according to Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata).

“Waterline breaks as well as other issues resulting in excessive water loss have become increasingly common to customers,” Stambaugh said.

The Liverpool Municipal Authority plans to replace approximately 3,640 feet of six-inch diameter, cast-iron water main with new pipe. The authority also seeks to replace 65 water services and curb stops, four fire hydrants, and 13 gate valves along Front Street from Pa. Route 17 to the area between Liberty and Perry streets.

“The work will contribute to improved water flow and fire protection, water conservation, and decreased operation and maintenance costs for decades to come,” Stambaugh said.

PENNVEST, established in 1988, provides low-cost financial assistance to help communities tackle drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source pollution projects.

PENNVEST funding comes from a combination of state funds approved by voters, federal grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards. Funds for the projects are disbursed after bills for work are paid and receipts are submitted to PENNVEST.
